These are the oldest (’97) and most recent (’05) I got. From these alone we can say that a lot has changed. Changes from the number of staffers to how the staff box (i don’t remember what’s it called) is outlined/presented. Since then [lhspa era
], no one made it to the national conferences (if i’m not mistaken) if there are, there’s probably one or two. Unlike today, I heard there are several instances already that the school made it to the national competitions (by the way, I got this from a credible source by the name of Ma’am Feliciano).
I am a part of this org, I was a late addition to the member on my third year. I consider it late because for most of them, they started as early as their freshman year but during that time student journalists started to be trained on their 2nd year.
I have enjoyed going to these “conferences” first and foremost because I get allowances. Can you imagine? You already have your “baon” plus an allowance which by the way you may not consume because food and transportation are free. It depends of course of the level, if you’re in District and Division levels, you get free snacks but if you’re in Regional conferences, you get to have free snacks, lunch then snacks again (that goes on until the 3rd day.)
Second reason why I enjoyed being in the org is the opportunity to go to other school or just basically be out of Payatas. Three reasons, to meet my elementary classmates, just to breathe fresh air (hehehe) and the ultimate reason is to get out of the normal class. Often times, I made being in the library for the school org a reason to just be out and be excused of the normal class activities (daya no? but I may not be the one, ever, who made that an excuse…)
Third amongst my reason for enjoying the privilege is you get to give pride for your alma mater. It doesn’t matter if you only won once or twice or not at all. The fact that you represented it with pride is an achievement. Bonus it is if you bagged an award but the learning you’ve got and you’ll use for the next fight is what matters.
Lastly and probably the least reason for being in the org is to see you on the pages. You would look like a criminal with your 1×1 or 2×2 pic with your name under it, hehehe.
Note/Disclaimer:
1. I forgot, there’s one that hasn’t changed since then, the publication adviser (peace, ma’am)
2. For the flaws you may see with this article (wow feeling staffer pa rin) and you would want to comment to, don’t worry I can accept it. I am not a writer then anyway (that gives you a clue, I may be a photojournalist or cartoonist
)
HOW ABOUT YOU? What’s your reason for being a part of any organization in our school, may it be the student publications, student council, CAT or any other org you’re with?
